Domestic Machine Quilting – Mondays at 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Tentative Starting Date: September 9th, 2024
Cost: $45.00
Give up “quilting by check” and quilt your own tops. All it takes is a little practice, a “can do” attitude, and 2 hours Monday morning. Bring your sewing machine, a free motion foot, a walking foot, and if you have one – a ruler foot (compatible with your specific machine). Also, bring 5 or 6 twelve inch quilt sandwiches, quilting gloves, marking tool, a 12 inch square of a big print, and a notebook.
Let’s make a Lone Star – Mondays at 1:00 – 4:00 pm
Tentative Starting Date: September 9th, 2024
Cost: $50.00
Don’t let the reputation of the Lone Star intimidate you. We’ll start by sewing a small wall hanging to learn the technique. We’ll explore strip piecing, bias, y-seam, and value. Once confident, we’ll move on to a self-designed larger quilt. Bring a sewing machine in good working order, the usual sewing supplies. 1\2 yard of low volume background fabric, 9 – 2 1/2 in strips (see below). 1/3 yd of border fabric, 1/3 yard binding, 1 yard of backing fabric.
Suggested Strips: 3 values, A -1 strip, B – 2 strips, C – 3 strips, D – 2 strips, E -1 strip
Quilting Class with Sheila Belyea – Tuesdays at 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Tentative Starting Date: September 17th, 2024
Cost: $50.00
Over the course of 10 weeks, we will delve into various quilting techniques including curves, sharp points, block sizing adjustments, crumb work, and other exciting topics! You are encouraged to think about additional skills you want to learn beyond the listed ones. Our supply list is quite scrappy, so each week, please pull materials from your stash and ensure you have a consistent background fabric. A consistent background could be composed of various whites, different shades of muslin, blues, greens, grays, or any other color. It can also be yardage of a single color.
You can choose to create a Sampler Quilt, Row Quilt, table runners, dresser scarves, or wall hangings. The amount of background fabric needed will vary depending on your project, but I suggest starting with at least 3 yards. If you are working with scraps, even better! For a more unified look, approximately 3 yards of one fabric should suffice. However, if you plan on making miniatures, 2 yards of background fabric will be adequate. I look forward to seeing you in class!
